All of the people who answered were either A) White....or B) Black women whom DID NOT wear weave and had NEVER worn a weave. First of all there are several types of weave techniques out there available for your hair not to be ripped out. There are Lace Front weaves, Full sew-in weaves, Half sew-in weaves, bonded (or glued) weaves, quick weaves....etc. I could go on but you get the point. I cant speak for any other "African-American" women but as for myself I wear "extension" weaves for their versitility. No other reason. My hair does break easily, and I have done darn near everything to my "natural" hair. Im also sick and tired of this misconception that all black people have course....difficult hair. I have two daughter and both of them have thick wavy/curly hair (although I am part naitive american, italian, and irish) But my point is......dont speak on things you know nothing about unless youre willing to do the research. If you wear weave....keep doing you and forget the rest.

Girl, why are you so upset? I can feel it in your words. Its only weave! Well, I am white...and I have worn weave. I have worn it sewn in and glued in. My mother in law is black. She wore wigs and it thinned her hair. A lot of my friends, in the south wear braids with yacky hair. Most of the girls I know, they get their hair done ever week - and weave is included. I think most women white or black just dont want to have to do their hair every day, even if it is "good hair" or not. You have to admit that you do have "good hair" though. And you can still wear weave if you want it longer. So I guess I am just saying, dont limit weave to one race and we all know that not all black people have rough hair. But those who do, know it and they like the pampering and can or cant afford to get their hair done, but they do. Looking good helps you feel good. Dont be so hateful. Your daughters hair is beautiful, so are my daughters hair, but if they want to change their hairstyle, who cares?

I didn't know that there were so many different types of weaves out there. I have seen some that look really good and some that are questionable. I think, if you are willing to take the time to make your hair look nice if it would otherwise look damaged and broken, then go for it. We can't all have perfect hair, right?

I wear weave but not to the point of blindness becos I'm a student who needs to see my teachers, colleagues and books well all the time.

A lot of women who wear weaves don't do the required maintenance and upkeep so that their own hair underneath stays healthy and grows. So their own hair ends up looking worse than before they got the weave.
I personally think women should work with what they've got naturally. However, if you have bald patches or really broken off hair, I can understand the need for a weave or wig.

I'm in that group that is black but has never worn a weave or fake hair. I kind of wanted to. Can I ask a question? If I were to get a full weave, would all my hair be braided underneath or something? I wanted an odd cut, and I thought it would be possible to save my own hair (which comes a few inches past my shoulders) and play with some fake hair. I don't want to color my hair or cut it or anything. Feel free to ignore this, just seems like you know your stuff. XD I googled it but I'm still lost on the subject.
You're right though, some people seem to think all black hair is the same type. My hair is naturally wavy but relaxed. I wake up, comb it down, out the door most of the times. Every now and then a curl or something.
