Cornrows - Braid - Texurizer - Perms - Time- What DO I DO?

Okay I am teenage african american male...with I guess the so called "good grade" of hair...and my hair frizzes a easliy i guess because of it texture....I get cornrows and I would like for them to last a little bit longer because its bout the 8th day and my hair is frizzing some what of a lot...my stylist says put moouse and a dew rag on it I do that(the dew rag everynight) but I do not put to much moose because my scalp becomes sticky....then I was told by one of my friends to relax it before I get it braided because will have practically the same grade of hair, but I dont wanna use a relaxer because i like my hair curly at times too...so I wanna know if a texturizer can be used to make cornrows last longer (as with relaxers) BASICALLY I JUST WANNA KNOW WITH MY GRADE OF HAIR WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THE MOST WEAR OUT OF MY BRAIDS FOR THE LONGEST TIME WITH THEM STILL LOOKING NEAT AND STILL WEAR MY HAIR CURLY AT TIMES ALSO? I AM IN NEED OF SOME SERIOUS HELP ON THIS HAIR (CORNROWS) ISSUE!

I would suggest you don't put those chemicals in your hair. They'll do more harm than good. Texurizer/Perm/Relaxer, they're all chemical processes, and with the exception of the texturizer, you're natural curl will be gone, and the only way to get it back, will be to grow it out, or cut the relaxed/perm hair off.

If you really want to texturize, you may want to check with a professional stylist, first, because you can't know for sure what effect it will have on your hair type. For most kinky/ natural hair types, it will slightly loosen the curl pattern. But, if your curl pattern is not kinky or very coiled, I would assume it would straighten your hair just as much as a relaxer would.

So if I were you, I'd simply try using a shampoo/conditioner especially for frizzy hair, and continue wearing the du rag over them at night. That should limit the frizz.

I have that good grade of hair too and I would never put a relaxer on it because it will never be the same. Even when it grows out it will never be like it was. And a texturizer is just as bad. It's not worth it to make your cornrows look good. All you have to do is use the do rag w/ out moose. u use just a plain bandanna when I get cornrows. Gel works really good though, but put it on when you wake up not before you go to sleep. moouse is sticky and hard. You should get them re done every 2 weeks anyway for them to look good. I wouldn't recommend using any chemicals on your hair if your gonna wear braids, chemicals make you hair weaker, and the braids will put extra tension on your hair, plus, I believe a texturizer needs to be moisturized alot, or you could get breakage, and a lot of moisturizing will cause the hair to be frizzy, and the braids wont last as long. just ask your stylist to use a firm holding gel during braiding, and follow this up with a firm hair spritz/spray.

also dont apply any african braid sprays to your hair, they tend to be wet and sticky, only use oil sheen after your hair has set for a couple days. but you will still need to use a wave cap nightly.
