Try a real short look, like Halle Barry used to have, if you have the right face shape, it looks really good.

You could try french braiding. I have long waist length hair and I love it when I get it french braided. I also use Conair hot rollers with felt lining on the rollers. The lining on the hot rollers is very good for fragile hair. And french braiding will not damage your hair.
