My husband is african american and is leaving a large dark spot on our pillow cases. When I put a new one on the pillow withing 3 days it's there again. It's ruining our pillow cases and we don't have the money to buy more and more pillow cases and if we had one for every day of the week I couldn't get him to change it everyday. Washing it doesn't always take care of it. Are there some remedies or preventatives out there?
Ethnic hair leaving a large dark spot on pillow case- prevention?
Put a pillow case on there that you don't want to ruin. Sounds like he uses hair in his oil that is soiling the pillow case. I doubt he will part with his Murrrays or whatever he is using on his hair, so I recommend that you put on a pillow case that isn't a part of your bedding ensemble. I have pillows that are a part of our bedding ensemble that I don't sleep on. And I have a pillow that has a satin cover on it to keep my hair soft. I swap mine out every few days. Maybe you just need to consider swapping his out for him, even if you use ones you buy just for him. But no...don't know and have never heard of any "preventives."

I think what it is, is the natural excessive oils in the hair that is causing your marks on your pillow cases. In this case hot water washes should remove it. Or soaking for a couple of hours in something like Napisan or Dynamo before a good hot wash in either of these two products. Good Luck.

lady bug is right, pin a towel on the pillow case to prevent this or make him wear a head rag. Or he can wash his hair 3 times a week for prevention.
