Does dandruff cause lice?

I've had dandruff for quite some time now so therefore I scratch alot. I wash my hair once a week (Im African American so I can't just wash my hair everyday or so without having to deal with tangles and an afro). But yeah everytime I it's almost time for a hairwash and I start scratching my mom is always like "Ew I feel bugs, let's hurry up and wash your hair" and all that crap. Not only does she wash my hair but she scrubs my carpet and bed linen with ammonia, which she thinks kills EVERYTHING and of course it doesn't. She won't listen to me when I say you can't get lice once a week and it's all in her head.

And so please tell me whose the crazy one in this situation.

It's SOO annoying having to deal with this.

You can only get lice if you catch them from someone else. Dandruff is because of dry scalp or you might not be washing out your shampoo properly.

You should still check for lice because you could've caught them from someone (especially if you're around small children alot, they're more prone to them with being at school around alot of children) but if you're sure you haven't got them then you just need to sort out your dandruff problem. But don't worry dandruff does NOT cause lice.

honestly, black people DONT GET LICE or it is very rare...you have natural oils in your hair that are necessary for your hair to be healthy. White people have to wash their hair so much more more often because the buildup of oil will cause the hair to look nasty - therefore...lice can live in it

Well.

Everyone, almost everyone has/gets dandruff.

It causes an itchy scalp.

But if you do see bugs in your hair its obviously lice/nits.

they are passed on from other people.

But the thing which is confusing is to tell the difference between eggs and dandruff since they are both white and round.

Buy a treatment for lice/eggs and brush through your hair.

And if its still itchy i recommend head and shoulders (anti-dandruff)

Try using Head and Shoulders shampoo, it gets rid of dandruff. Dandruff is caused by putting too much product in your hair or just plain dry skin on your scalp. It does not in any way cause lice. Lice are bugs that get on your head if you live in a dirty house or you can catch it from close contact with someone else that your around fairly alot.

No, dandruff and lice are completely different things. Dandruff is a problem with dry scalp which can be remedied with a dandruff shampoo usually. But lice is a creepy crawly creature that needs to be cured with a completely different medication which you can get from a pharmacy. If dry scalp is your problem, try a hot oil treatment. It helps me a great deal.

Dandruff does NOT cause lice. You probably have a mix of dandruff and dry skin, which is where the itch comes from. i seriously recommend washing TWICE a week with head and shoulders shampoo, and leaving it in for ten minutes, then rinse. Or you take a regular aspirin and grind it until it's powder and mix it in ordinary shampoo. Either way, this should help with your dry scalp/dandruff. Then, as conditioner, get dove moisture therapy conditioner,this should also help with your "fro".

Acullay your wrong if you had lice and you did not treat everything you could get re-infestation, you need to have some one you trust really check your hair, combs avaialbel at most stores that you can use, I would suggest a school nurse or Dr, if you do have lice you will need to treat your hair, wash all your clothing bedding, pillows in hot water and dry them in hot setting, also you will need to bag any stuffed animals and misc that could possibly have lice on them, close the bags and leave them in sun for a couple of days to kill lice.

I don't belive ammonia will effect the lice if they are present, it's good to have a nice clean area however, but the ammonia might affect your skin it could be cuasing your dandrif! SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION!
