Can you give me hairstyle suggestions?

I am of African American descent and have coarse, thick, tightly curled hair. In the fall, I'll be attending college as a freshman and I want I hairstyle that will be easy for me to manage, maintain and keep my hair healthy. Braids look terrible on me, so what other options should I try? A cut? A mild relaxer? A full on perm? This question is aimed at ANYONE who thinks they can help me out. You don't have to be of African-American descent...I know I'm also partially Jewish and Italian. :-) Thanks!

most people look good with straightened hair...

you can just leave it, not comb it and it still looks good...

but since u're hair is originally coarse, thick and curly.. it might revert back to normal quicker than usual and then u'll end up looking like medusa's younger sister...

so maybe a hair relaxer is good for ya...

I know a photo would help, but I like it when people with your hair type leave it natural and let it poof up around. Not a picked-out afro, but naturally curly. It looks hip. I think you should ignore that first answer. My son is biracial and his hair is long right now. I have been looking for a really good conditioning for his hair. Paul Mitchell "The Conditioner" Leave in Conditioner (even the generic brand) works really well and I was looking on the internet for stuff for his hair and found mixedchicks.net-they are supposed to send me a sample to try and I will get back and let you know how it works. Curly hair is beautiful. Straight hair is beautiful. You just have to take really good care of it. I personally think you should leave it curly and let it grow.

if your mixed u usually have really frilly hair so the best thing 2 do would be to relax or pirm it. the best eould be to realax it though. if you leave it the best thing to do would be braid but dince that looks bad on you i would suggest clips if ur hair isnt too big if it is then you should go with the relaxing opption. since your going to college it will be really exspensive to keep your hair relaxed unless you take like very very good care of it.. if it your first time relaxing you should ask for tips like dont wet your hair unless triyng to wash it out and try to re do it when it starts to look shabby again.

everyone wants to look good in college but for some of us it is harder that others!!

Do you ever waych that TV show EXTRA with Mark McGrath and Tanika Ray (she's filling in for the other regular host)? Anyway, I love Tanika's style but I have no idea what the maintenance is on it, but it is absolutley adorable...I have commented to my boyfriend several times that if I had hair that would do that I would definately be sporting that style.
