My cornrows look old?

Whenever I just do my hair, it looks over a week old. I'm African-American and my hair is natural (nappy). My question is........ Is it me, the way I braid, or is it that I don't use heat? I let my friend do my hair, and it looked like she just did it. But at the same time, she always used heat to my hair before she cornrowed it. When I did my sister's hair, it also looked old. But at the same time, her hair is natural, and I didn't add any heat to it. Does adding heat to the hair make the braids look newer than when you don't add heat? Or does adding heat to the hair makes it easier to braid yet plays no role in making the cornrows look better? Keep in my that I'm talking about cornrowing with extensions (weave). When I cornrow my real hair without adding any weave or heat, it looks nice. So is it something wrong with the way I braid with weave or is it that you have to add heat to your hair if it's natural to make the cornrows look better with the extensions? Thanks alot!!!

im african american and i have not heard of a such thing. its probably helping because the oils she puts in your hair soaks in because of the heat. i think that the best way to help is to grease your hair every night. get hot oil treatments before you get your hair braided. my bro got a braid hair kit. it was at the beauty supply store. its not a perm or anything. it just made his hair braid better.

Well, if heat makes it look better, then by all means use it. Or, change the type of hair extensions you are buying.

I always get my hair braided so I know what to do. I'm African American, too. You need to get a perm, so it won't be nappy. If you recently got a perm, then wash it and put the hair dryer on low. This will let your hair dry, but it won't be as hot. If you prefer, you can wait until your hair loses that hot feeling. Then you buy some Yaky hair and braid it!

Hope I helped!
